Supplement product development, from idea to reorder
In short
- Product development is the whole journey, not just the formula: the pathway, the formula and its evidence, the claims, the listing, the label, the stability program and managed manufacturing, through to the reorder and the next product.
- From our records: 190 projects since 2020. Listed medicines have taken 32 days to 12 weeks from design to production order, and 5.8 to about eight months from brief or formulation to dispatch.
- Where you start decides the journey: a first product, the next one in a range, a product that has to change, an overseas brand coming to Australia, a practitioner-only range or an ingredient that isn't permitted yet.
- Take Friday Off isn't a contract manufacturer. We match each product to cGMP manufacturing partners and manage them through to your warehouse.

Read moreFive stages, one team
The same five stages run under every journey. How the system works covers each one with a problem we solved in it.
- Discover. We align the product with your commercial, brand and regulatory requirements from day one: market, portfolio, pathway and forecast. The first decision is the pathway: medicine, food or cosmetic?
- Design. Evidence-based formulation, in the format your customers reach for (formulation, formats).
- De-risk. Claims, evidence, labelling and listing are prepared alongside the formula, so nothing is unpicked later (permitted indications, labelling, stability testing).
- Deliver. cGMP manufacturing partners matched to your format, volume and margin, with release testing, imports and freight managed through to your warehouse or 3PL (managed manufacturing, packaging).
- Drive. After launch, reorders, range extensions and the next product, with the same team.
Where are you starting from?
- Your first product. A founder with an idea, or a clinic with a product it wants to own. Our guide to starting a supplement brand sets out the order of work. From our records: Your Skin Scan's first own-brand tablet took about 6.5 months from signed quote to delivery, and Nivari's first powder was produced and delivered for a mid-August 2026 launch.
- Your next product. A range extension, a new format or a sample pack, built on what the first product set up. See extending a supplement range.
- A product that has to change. A better ingredient or dose, a claim, a format that won't hold, a supply problem or a new manufacturer. See reformulating a supplement.
- An overseas brand coming to Australia. An Australian sponsor, a listing, a TGA GMP clearance for the overseas maker and an Australian label. See bringing a supplement brand to Australia.
- A practitioner-only range. Built for supply through clinics and health practitioners. See practitioner-only ranges.
- An ingredient that isn't permitted yet. The TGA, FSANZ or AICIS route, mapped before the formula is locked. See new ingredient applications.
Time and cost
The time depends on the formula, the format and the pathway. From our records: 32 days from design to production order for a complex herbal capsule, under seven weeks for an eye-health formula, 12 weeks for the second version of a probiotic skin supplement, 5.8 months from signed brief to dispatch for EverLeanBody, about 6.5 months from signed quote to delivery for Your Skin Scan, and about eight months from formulation to dispatch for The Belly Solution. The TGA's listing step is short: what holds a launch up is a formula that won't run, an ingredient that isn't on the TGA's list, or a pathway settled late. More in our development timeline guide.
What it costs, from the TGA's fees to the first run of at least 3,000 finished retail packs, is in our development cost guide.
Formats and pathways
We develop supplements and natural health products as capsules, tablets and softgels, gummies, powders and sachets, liquids, and creams, serums and sunscreens, as TGA-listed medicines, foods or cosmetics (medicine, food or cosmetic?).
